Screenshot Ultimate is a screenshot and annotation app for macOS made by BestApps LLC. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
BestApps LLC does not collect or receive your screenshots, screen recording data, editing history, Apple Account details or payment information through Screenshot Ultimate. The app has no developer account system, analytics, advertising or tracking. It does not send screenshot content to us or to Apple for purchase verification.
Starting with version 1.2, unlimited Advanced editing is available through an optional one-time in-app purchase. Apple handles payment, purchase restoration and transaction verification using StoreKit. These functions communicate with Apple's services and are subject to Apple's App Store privacy information. We do not receive your payment card or Apple Account credentials.
The app checks Apple's signed purchase records on your Mac to unlock Advanced editing and checks the version you originally downloaded so people who obtained the app before version 1.2 keep unlimited access. Those records are not uploaded to a BestApps server. Apple may provide us sales and financial reports through App Store Connect.
App preferences and the date of your last free Advanced screenshot are stored locally on your Mac. That date enforces one free Advanced screenshot every seven days on that Mac; it is not uploaded or synced by us. Each free edit allows all changes to one screenshot until its editor window closes. Screenshot capture, Markup, saving and copying remain unlimited and free.
macOS requires Screen Recording permission for any app that captures the screen. Screenshot Ultimate uses this permission only to take the screenshots you ask for, and handles the resulting screen data as follows.
Features that use screen recording. Only the capture commands: Capture Region or Window (started with the capture shortcut, Shift-Command-1 by default, the menu bar item, File > New Capture, or by reopening the app from Finder), Capture Full Screen, and Capture in 3 Seconds. No other feature uses screen recording. The app never captures in the background, on a schedule, or without you starting a capture.
What is captured. When you start a capture, the app takes one still image of each connected display at that moment. That image can include anything visible on your screen, except the pointer and Screenshot Ultimate's own preview cards. To highlight the window under the pointer, the app also reads the position and size of on-screen windows; it does not read window titles. The app does not record video or audio and does not capture continuously.
How screen data is used. The still image is shown as a frozen backdrop so you can pick a region or window. Only the area you choose is kept, and it opens in the preview card and editor so you can annotate, copy, save or share it. Text recognition (Copy Text), Select Subject and Smart Erase analyze that screenshot on your Mac using Apple's Vision framework. Screen data is not used for analytics, advertising, tracking, profiling, AI training or any other purpose.
Where it is stored and for how long. Captures are held only in your Mac's memory. The full-display images are discarded as soon as you choose your region or press Esc. Your screenshot is discarded when you close its preview card or editor window, unless you copy it to the clipboard or save it to a location you choose. When you drag a screenshot into another app or use the Share menu, the app writes a temporary PNG in its private app container, readable only by your macOS user account, and deletes it after five minutes or when the app quits, whichever comes first; anything left over is removed the next time the app opens. Files you save stay where you saved them, under your control. BestApps LLC never receives screen data, so we hold none to retain or delete.
Sharing. Screen data is never sent to BestApps LLC, Apple or any other third party, and the app has no servers, analytics or advertising code that could receive it. A screenshot leaves the app only when you copy it, save it, drag it out, or send it with the Share menu to an app or service you pick; that service's own privacy policy then applies.
Your control. You can turn Screen Recording off at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording. Screenshot Ultimate can still open and edit existing images without it; only new captures stop working.
If you choose to test a beta through TestFlight, Apple provides the developer with beta crash reports, usage statistics and any feedback you submit, associated with your tester information. This is governed by Apple’s TestFlight terms and privacy information. You can stop testing through TestFlight.
Screenshot Ultimate has no advertising or tracking and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. App Store purchases are handled by Apple and can be restricted using macOS parental controls.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
